I thought, I would share this AUDI trick, for faster passing.

If you need more power, prior to passing another vehicle tap your accelerator all the way down quickly 3 to 5 times, than pass.

The car will be in different mode for approx 30 seconds.

I do not know why and what, but it works.

Where did you learn this trick? Is it documented anywhere or did you just happen to notice on your own?

 

I noticed this myself on a Jetta in BC Mountains. I think it changes the mixture from lean to rich.

 

I think the secret code to unlock 100 bonus HP is:

Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A.

And, lean of stoichiometric (not rich) makes more power (to a degree).

 

If you do this with an automatic, likely what you initiate is the kickdown process to quickly drop down to a lower gear without having to touch the shift lever. As soon as you ease off on the pedal, the tiptronic transmission will likely up shift again. If you have a turbo, you're likely also spooling it up a bit as well.

you dont need to tap 3 or 5 times....

Just quickly put the gas pedal down to the floor and it will drop 2 gears down. It would be going from 5th gear to 3rd gear at highway speeds.

If you have tiptronic. You can just down shift and will give you better torque to pass vehicles. Also, at tipmode and you down shifted from 5th to 4th, you can still quickly put the gas pedal to the floor and it will drop to 3rd gear.

and its not an Audi trick. Almost every car does it, if not all.

 

I think this is what is happening.

When I tap on gas it does not change the gear, because you need to do it fast, so there is no downshifting involved. This is not for direct injection owners as I think the extra gas accumulates in the manifold and stays there for 30 seconds, making the car more powerful.

I am not nuts, I just now that it works. Last vacation I was fully loaded going 15 km distance uphill in some national park in BC after a one passenger Lexus at 180. We were kind of at even, but when I tapped the gas the A4 started moving forward untill Lexus gave up. I had 2 passengers and 100 kg in the trunk.

 

Did you get the double score 5x mulitplyer when you passed the lexus?
