Default Newbie question: VAG-COM 409 vs 805/812

Greetings, I am new to Audi & this forum and I was looking for a piece of software that would allow me to do several things such as:
  • unlock all doors with just 1 click (currently I need to click 3 times to unlock the trunk)
  • turn off the DRL

I understand that the VAG-COM software will be able to take care of these, but I am a bit confused as to which version do I need. So far I've read about 4 versions: 409.1, 704.1, 805, 812.4...I have a 99 A4/B5 2.8 and am quite lost as to which I should use and what are the differences between them.

Also, is there a list of changes that can be done via VAG-COM?

Thx in advance

This will help you.

hxxp://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/cars/applications/a4s4.html

replace the xx with tt above...I'm not sure if we're allowed to post real links here.

Sorry.

For the 99 A4, Version 409.1 will work fine. Latest version of the VCDS software is 908 BTW. The enhancements in the software typically apply for the newer model Audi/VW models.

Thx for the link...I can see that I should be able to adjust the door locks settings...couldn't find anything regarding DRL though...I'll keep searching. Cheers !

Ok Thx, if the newer versions don't add any extra functionality for my car, then I'll stick w/409

In my opinion yes - the Ross-Tech VCDS software is the best; I've heard you can do things with it, that aren't doable with the Audi factory diagnostic tools; no specifics but just comments read in various Audi/VW forums.
