Well first of all mainteneace costs more, parts dont break often. Common problems maintenance would probably be, timing belt, shocks and control arms, maybe alternator, as well as coil packs. That is probably it in a nutshell on maintaining these cars most common issues. The cars are great I had a 97 a4 with 397 000km's and just maintained it and it wouldnt die on me, so I sold it recently for 7g's cant sell domestics that old for half the amount i got. Get yourself an audi IMO and you will never go back, just invest into quattro and leather, possibly heated seats. and you are set.

I just pickd up a 01 A4 1.8T for for a great deal, premium package, 198,000km's, I was looking for a 01, seems like the 1.8T is rated at 170hp on this year of the B5 rather than 150hp on the rest. Great car. Gonna do my best and make it look like a S4. Maybe one day i'll afford that.

be on the lookout for previous maintenance records. Things to check out: Timing belt service and control arms... if those 2 are good or have been replaced you are winning the battle...
