Re: How long does an A4 last??
My brother had a 2000 A4 1.8T Quattro that he kept for 10 years 200,000 miles. It was still going pretty good when he sold it...
If you take good care of it, use full syntec oil and change it evrey 5-6,000 miles and do the preventive maintenance, they will go for a very long time.

Re: How long does an A4 last??
My 2000 A4 has just over 215,000 km's on it. It was starting to rust all over the place, but low and behold, Audi has a 12 year perforation warranty on the car. Last year, they pretty much repainted the whole thing. They replaced all 4 doors, the trunk lid and one of the front fenders. So I figure I have another 13 years from the body perspective. Engine runs as strong as it ever did. It's the best shifting car I've ever had. I am about to do my timing belt for the second time and certain emissions sensors are starting to go but so far nothing that's overly expensive.
I think your biggest issue is rust and general maintenance. If you can keep control of both of them, the car will last a long time. The engines should last a million kilometres.

I bought my father-in-law's 2001 A4 with 60,000KM on it and it's in amazing condition. But he did take execellent care of it. Took it in for regular maintenance checks and oil changes, etc. etc. I figure I'll have it for another 10 years if I do the same. They are solid cars if you look after them.
