Re: how to to disable the DRL function?
Not 100% sure it will be the same but I did this for 2001 B5 S4.
Some good info here:
AudiWorld Tech Articles
Remove driver knee bolster to access Relay Block and remove Headlight DRL Relay # 209
Look at the bottom of Relay and two pins will be labelled A and B.
Jumper A and B together in the Relay Block.
Be sure to make a quality jumper as your headlight operation will always depend on it.
After this change, the headlights will only turn on with full power by turning on the headlight switch.
You have to disable Cdn 2 stage halogen headlight DRL feature when upgrading to Xenon's or the ballasts will only get partial power with ign on.
Know that after this change, you will have no headlight DRL's which will technically be a violation on Cdn roadways for this car. I installed Euro xenon headlight assemblies and used the Euro City Lights as DRL's to keep "as shipped" Cdn DRL bulb count the same.

Re: how to to disable the DRL function?
I was trying to do the same for my A6 but it's not the same. At least there's no relay #209. Any ideas? Or may be you can post a pic of the relay with the diagram printed on it's side? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
p.s. On the right there's a brown relay #205 and another black relay #204 which the camera didn't get. Not a lot of space in there :P
