When you brought in your head(s), what did they do to bring the bill to over $600? Port and polish? I've got my heads here ready to go to a shop, they need massive cleaning but all valves are out and I've got new seals etc.
2 head shops here in Calgary have brushed me off on the phone, too busy even to hear me out!

Update - a few additions and changes. Took away the rest of the front end to make things easier to work on. I did not disconnect the AC. And I installed the passenger side head. Attached the exhaust manifold first to the head. Waiting for 2nd head - $600 so I'm saving. Valve cover is not screwed down.

Replaced radio. The radio I had did not have the 4 digit code. I called Audi - they want $64 just for the code. I found this at ECS Tuning for $27. Works great. Question - do I have to program it to make the CD player in trunk be recognized? I still have to wire CD player - connector is all corroded, but I'd like to know ahead of time.

Cup holder - tried to repair. It was broke broke inside. Have to buy a new one if I want it - but its $130 even off Ebay. No way. You can see where I chipped the molding - that I'd like to replace... I chipped it months ago - this time I got it off no problem.

Re: Heads removed and rebuilding engine.
Well - a minor setback. I have all the parts now to finish the job, except new head bolts for drivers side. I started on timing pulleys and stripped the bolt on the tensioner pulley while torquing. I have no idea how I did it. So - I had to buy a new crankshaft cover plate (used off ebay). I had to take the oil pan cover off again to take the crankshaft cover off. I purchased a new crankshaft bolt and gasket. I was pissed.
Should have new pics coming soon - can't wait to get this guy going.

Almost forgot - I picked up the head for $600 - while explaining to someone how timing is important - I noticed the timing mark on one side of the chain was 1 tooth off.... I brought it back - sure enough.... wtf....
