Frontal Collisions at 200km/hr

Frontal Collisions at 200km/hr
This is to show how AUDI behaves during frontal collisions with incoming passenger vehicles. Combined speed 200km/hr at impact.
This is nothing funny of course, yet I find it remarkable how the cockpit turns into powder and how the cabin is preserved.
It seems as the more damage to the exterior of the vehicle involved the better for the passengers.
And the safest place in the car is the back seat, after all. Something to consider when transporting children.
As per Police - there were no bone injuries in respect to rear seat passengers.
Left - crash with Renault
Right - Crash with Mercedes (more damage), note how the windsield peeled off to the right instead of going inside the cabin.
Nobody died in the AUDIS. The drivers and passengers ended up with dislocated shoulders.
Unfortunately there were 7 casualties in the other cars involved.

Re: Frontal Collisions at 200km/hr
So do these images somehow make you feel safe going 220km/h as you consistently claim to do? Impacting head on another driver that is doing 120km/h (an average highway speed in alberta) would make your "combined speed" as you put it, what, like 340km/h? You'll probably kill everyone in both vehicles.

Speed does not kill, stupid speed laws and slopoking does
Other countries move away from passports and speed limits but Canada is on the reverse
In respect to images Yes they definitely impact my purchasing decisions. I do not get into accidents but my wife does once every 2 years or so. She already wrecked Toyota Corona, Oldsmobile Cutlass, Volvo 960 and just yesterday Audi A6 on a pole (side impact no problem). She is all fine just because we moved away from Toyotas 25 years ago. Otherwise she will be in a wheelchair or worse.
Now in Audi A6 they can ram her as much as they want.

Re: Frontal Collisions at 200km/hr
While I may agree that speed does necessarily kill alone, there are other factors involve where speed will definitely make a difference.
1) On a roadway where all other drivers are driving between 100km/h-120km/h, one who is driving 200km/h definitely increases the odds of an accident. The same would be true if one of the drivers is driving at 35km/h on the same roadway.
2) Increased speeds will increase damage. Losing control and smashing into a telephone pole at 35km/h will do much less damage than smashing into the same pole at 250km/h.
3) Increased speeds means less reaction time. You have much less time to react and compensate for a "minor" issue when speeds are increased. Imagine a dog running out in front of you while doing 100km/h. Now imagine the same dog at the same distance while doing 200km/h. You would have much less time to react. Not only to react to swerving in time to not hit it, but also less time to react to other things as a result. Things such as the fact that your car is no longer going in the same direction because you swerved. Now you need to swerve back to keep from going off the road. There is also a longer braking distance. There are many factors that compound and multiply as speed increases.
So yes, perhaps speed does not kill. But it definitely increases the odds of it should something go wrong.

On the other hand when there is no speed limit the drivers behave very very different. I witnessed it in Montana 5 years ago when the speed limit was abolished and again on Frankfurt - Berlin Highway in Germany.
The rules as I noticed are
1. They stay away from each other at 300m minimum - not like here when you get an idiot following you 2 feet away.
2. The vehicle that intends to pass does 2 flashes with the lights and waits untill the vehicle which is being passed signals back with one flash of emergency lights.
3 After passing the vehicle the driver thanks the passed vehicle with 1 flash of emergency lights.
4 Nobody drives on the left lane unless they intend to pass
Their number of accidents is way less than ours.
We have a problem with the amount of American cars manufactured to be driven at 120 km/hr that are still on the road so it will be another 5 years when speed limits are increased in Canada.
The names like
EAGLE TALON
KIA SEDONA
TOYOTA CAMRY
BUICK RANDEVOUS
FORD EXCURSION
HONDA PILOT
PONTIAC AZTEK
TOYOTA MATRIX (this one is an instant puker)
HONDA ACCORD SPORT! YEAAAH 110 max than it goes to the ditch S P O R T
stupid will buy it
ZOOM ZOOM ZOOM .... Mazda owners do not be fooled
MAKE ME SICK TO MY STOMACH SO BAD THAT I WANT TO PUKE FARTHER THAN I CAN SEE.
How was it possible that in an industrial country like USA this kind of **** was produced?

Re: Frontal Collisions at 200km/hr
Adam,
I usually ignore the incoherent drivel you post on here. Sometimes I'm annoyed by the poorly constructed and grammatically incorrect sentences, but most of the time I'm annoyed by the sheer stupidity of what you've written. Let's review your post:
1) Your first picture is way to small to draw any meaningful conclusions from, but judging by the damage to the vehicle, this is not a photograph of a car that was involved in a head on crash with a 200km/hr closing speed.
2) Regarding your claims about the second photo, the cockpit and the cabin are the same thing - I suspect you meant to say the engine compartment and the cockpit. No part of the car turned to powder, what you see is an absorbent material used by emergency services to soak up harmful chemicals draining from the damaged engine. Also, that windshield was probably peeled away by emergency crews in order to gain access to the passengers.
3) You claim to travel very near to 200km/hr with great regularity. I can only hope this isn't the case. Speed is for a racetrack. No exceptions. A plethora of variables outside of your control including other drivers, animals, and the poorly maintained road surface make speeding on public roads absolutely stupid. Furthermore, when you drive around public streets like a moron, you're not only risking your life, but the life of others.
Driving way above the speed limit doesn't make you a car enthusiast or earn you the respect of people who are, it makes you a selfish and irresponsible person who is senselessly risking innocent lives.
Driving at high speed on the very wide, straight, and well maintained autobahn in Germany, where other drivers are aware of and prepared for this type of speed is completely different than ripping around calgary streets.
If you want to drive quickly, go to a track. You're going to kill someone's family if you carry on.

Re: Frontal Collisions at 200km/hr
I am a speed junkie, addicted to it since I bought my first VW. There is no way back now unless they make AUDI illegal in Canada or start putting 900cc engines into it.
I slow down for all traffic cameras and when the cops are around during their blitzes.
PS
My record on Calgary - dEadmonton QE2 is 1hr 45 minutes downtown to downtown

I enjoy while I can. Our children will not be allowed to drive. The satelites will guide the 2 wheeled cars and driving will be a crime. They will argue that this will reduce deaths and cars having 2 wheels (on the sides) will be better on gas. Mercedes Smart Car is produced to get people familiar with what is to come in the future. It will be way worse than expected. It is similar to the replacement of skis with snowboards. The future car will have 2 wheels side by side. The balance is controlled by computer and the wheels can move back and forth independently. It is either satelite that steers it or a so called lead car that you will drive behind together with 100 other cars. All steering is done by computer alone. There is no steering wheel or gas pedal, just emergency brake. It is unbelievable. They are now developing this technology far away from your eyes in India. Some people will get even richer than they already are. Say bye bye to your driving FOREVER in 20 years - and yes BELIEVE IT!
Some other things nobody would believe before
1. Macintosh computer
2. Adolf Hitler killed 90,000,000 people within 5 years
3. Marijuana is legal in the city of Calgary
4. You will be fined $500.00 in Calgary for
having penknife on your belt
putting feet on a bench
spitting
5. Fine for throwing a cigarette is $1,000.00
6. Arabs doing 911 in New York
The truth is worse than fiction these days

Re: Frontal Collisions at 200km/hr
@adam It would be a sad coicidence that your children die from a horrific car accident due to highspeed collision over 200+ km. Also a video caught the accident and they gave you a copy for you to watch every night as you cry in guilt.
Speed belongs in the race track.
