B5 Tail light conversion

B5 Tail light conversion
I just installed 99.5 tail lights on my '97 and I realized there would be some rewiring. I tried rewiring from the plug itself by switching the turn signal and the brake light, and on the right side it worked, on the left it didn't work, what the hell is up with these things? Has anyone done this before?

I'm gonna have to post up how i had to do it, cause as clear as this was it didn't end up working, I have the red/gray tail lights, not the ones pictured there (red/clear) What year I have no clue. Anyways, I went through the Haynes manual for the wire colours:
Driver's side:
1 Reverse...........Blue & Red
2 Fog.................Grey & White
3 Brake..............Red & Black
4 Ground............Brown
5 Flasher............Black & white
6 Tail light..........Grey & Black
The new light is as follows:
1 Reverse
2 Fog
3 Flasher
4 Ground
5 Brake
6 Tail light
As you see, you must change wires 3 & 5 on the driver's side, the passenger's side is the same as the picture on audiworld.

Re: B5 Tail light conversion
ya both sides are going to be different in the way the plug is set up...but from what i have seen is that the 99+ tails simply have the reverse and blinkers switched??? just leave it, looks sweet lol.
