A4 '99 audi / Buyingr 1st car
A4 '99 audi
hi,
First, i'm no mechanic nor a car savvy. Now that i landed a job im looking into a good AWD car for an everyday car all year round. What is a must is AWD and comfort since i have a bad back and neck. I decided to go with used A4. my first concern is what question should i ask the deal regarding the maintenance such as time belt, water pump etc. This is gonna be my first time going to a dealer and i need all the info / questions i need so that i dont go blind in there and just hand out my hard earn money. If you have any input please dont hesitate. Im here to learn about the world of finer cars.
cant post link but @ auto trader the title is "1999 Audi A4 Sedan 4D - NORTH YORK - $3,900"

timing belt, water pump, thermostat, serpentine belt + tesnsioner should be replaced every 100,000km. If you are not sure when it was done, I'd get it done to be safe. Control arms could be your next problems and the car seem to eat through wheel bearings.
Your ABS module may go if you start to see your ABS light stays lit and your E-brake starts flasing. Turn signals will sometimes stop working, is a sign of a need for a new hazard relay. I would think most of these cars do not have a working cruise control. So check that if its working...

Re: A4 '99 audi / Buyingr 1st car
I am just sooo glad I didn't pay much for my B5. i was in your shoes, but my cheapness got the better of me so I bought one with some body damage. Everything was great until the timing belt slipped and I bent a bunch of valves. . . no fault of the previous owner, just no maintenance done and now I'm paying for it! (see ongoing thread in here). All I can say is I am shocked at how much a guy can spend, doing the labour himself!
