A4 1.8T Engine Swap

A4 1.8T Engine Swap
Good Day to all.
I recently had the timing belt go on my 200 A4 1.8t. After removing the head I found the damage was to extensive to fix and want to change the engine. In searching for an engine I am finding it difficult to find an engine from another A4 but there are a few engines from Passats with the same engine code ATW. Does anyone know if I can do a straight change out with a Passat engine without any problems? Will the transmission mount up OK?
Any tips will help thanks.

Re: A4 1.8T Engine Swap
yes it will be a direct swap, just make sure that whatever engine you get come from a car with the same transmission, your profile says you have an automatic so you need to get an engine from an automatic car. There may be a few random hoses/bits and pieces you need to transfer over from your old engine but the head/block will drop in and bolt up just fine.

Re: A4 1.8T Engine Swap
Thanks for your reply. Very good to know. But now I have a new question I have a line on a 1.8T out of a 2001 A4 which has an AWM engine code and mine is a AWT I know one difference is the coolant pump is internal. So my question is can I drop a AWM engine in when I had a AWT both automatic A4's

Re: A4 1.8T Engine Swap
the engines are quite different, the ATW is a bastard child of the 1.8t, the cylinder head is the same as AWM but the bottom end is different(same as AEB). The a/c compressor is different, theres a discussion on audizine right now whether or not you can use an AEB/ATW compressor bracket on an AWM block. The AEB engine has the same bottom end just a different head which would need to be swapped to retain your secondary air injection. Quickly google search awm/atw/aeb differences as its too much to type. Personally I'd keep looking as there will be a lot of things to swap around to make it work 100%
