1st audi a4 and all ready problems
i bought a 1999 adiu a4 quattro with only 99000 km on it and on the tenth day of driving it (loving the car) the piston broke and destroyed the motor. ok it is a great car so i sunk the money into rebuilding the motor. after i was done reinstalling the motor it will not run right. i was told the the throttle body needs alignment by a vag com and also the transmission also is this true about both or just the throttle body.

I don't understand why you need the VAG com for the transmission, but on the throttle body alignment (TBA), you don't need a VAG com.
This from the actual Audi technician repair manual instructions for the TBA:
Turn your key in the ignition (don't start the engine).
Press the accelerator peddle to the floor (as far as it will go) and hold for 5 secs.
Keep the peddle pressed to the floor and switch of the ignition.
Wait 2 minutes. Then you can drive it anytime.
If you listen carefully when you have switched of, you should hear some clicks and whirrs as the TB is re-aligned.
One more time:
1) switch on ignition and do not start engine
2) floor acc peddle and hold for 5 secs
3) switch of and wait 2 minutes
4) drive away!
You will notice an immediate difference with the acceleration.
That is all there is to it!

Re: 1st audi a4 and all ready problems
ty for the help with the car i have all ready tried this fix for the throttlebody and it did not work the car was still throwing the p1545 code even with a reset. i will admit that it ran better and the check engine light is off but it is still a pending code does it need time to reset out of a pending code.. now the reason that i am wondering about the transmission is that i was looking at the vag com cable on the ross tech web sight and it had a setting to adjust the transmission also does anyone know what is the best transmission fluid for the car is (recommended) as i want to do a transmission flush before it comes out of the shop. i CANT WAIT to be driving the car again ty everyone missing it only drove it 10 days 24 days in the shop lol

I hear ya.
From September.
I had..
timing belt kit
oil leak
rack and pinion
now the front tires, nvm, all 4 changing.
shocks going...
I should've opted for certified pre pwned....
I like my car and all, but man, I could've had a newer car with the entire loan taken plus non warranty repair so far.
or is it typical for any car that's around 125,000km.
I can only sigh....

For the throttle reset problem, I had problems too.
I tried the ignition switch reset and the car reset with no success. I tried cleaning the throttle body with no change. All sources said after that replace the thro ttlebody. For 300 bucks, I figured if it's broke, it's broke. So what's harm could I do, I decided to dig into the module. The vag when doing an adaptation looks for 2 settings of degree to zero out. Mine only had one 0 and the other never zeroed out. I found a black "puck" in the bottom left corner under a spring (I'll try to load a pic) this is the puck I moved till the degree zeroed out. There is another under the right bottom corner (harder to see). But with adaptation running, adjust the pucks till both readings are 0. I never had another problem
