1998 A4 Airbag warning light
Hi there, I have recently purchsed a 2004 1.8T A4 and would like to sell my 1998. The people looking at the car said it would cost $350 to $2000 to fix the airbag warning light.
Is this correct? or is there an easy fix
Thank you

Re: 1998 A4 Airbag warning light
The answer is depends.
The most likely problem is the seat airbag connector has worked loose. This was the problem with mine...but I have a VAG scanner so I can see the error code.
My error code was:
01217 - Side Airbag Igniter; Driver Side (N199)
32-10 - Resistance too High - Intermittent
I have the link but they wont let me post it because I am a newbie
This cost me $60 in labor to fix, they cleaned out the connector and reinstalled.
If you have a friend who has a scanner, take it to them.
I would do it for you but I am in Toronto.

Re: 1998 A4 Airbag warning light
Thank you for your help. There is no Audi dealer in Lethbridge, Calgary is the closest.
There is a guy in town that services imports I will see if he has a scanner.
Will there always be a code on the scanner that allows you to find the problem?
Regards - Ban

Yes there will be.
An audi trained garage will have a Ross Tech VAG Scanner (or the real thing a VAG 5051) and a copy of the Audi B5 Service Manual. That has all the codes and what to fix.
You do not need to take it to an audi dealer, you can take it to a "trained" audi dealer.
Google Rosstech and VAG
