2012 S4 Premium, getting traffic
Hey Folks,
Just picked up a 2012 S4 over the weekend and loving it.
The satellite radio is no longer active (I bought the car used) and noticed on some other forums (not S4's, but Canaidan cars..a Q5 discussion and VW touareg) that people that have Serius radio have switched over to a US subscription since the traffic function works. Wondering if anyone here has tried this and if so how it turned out?
Thanks

In 2012 Audi MMI radios came with only one serial number. This serial number can only be used with Radio OR Data (Traffic) as a result even if you move to US subscription you can't use traffic because your radio can't receive it.
Sirius Canada is "supposed to" soon bring traffic service that your radio can get with the same signal as your radio (so only one serial is needed).
In 2011 my Q5 came with two unique serial numbers so I had my radio through Canada and Traffic through US.
Sometimes though Sirius US runs 2 week free trial services where in Souther Ontario you'll suddenly start picking up traffic for major HWYs.

Re: 2012 S4 Premium, getting traffic
So after a couple of white lies I managed to get myself set up with a US subscription to Serius along with the traffic option-an extra 3.95/month. There was also a $15 activation fee which they refused to budge on. All this to say that even with only having one number to give, when they ran it they said there wouldn't be any issues.
There were some issues getting it set up online with the link that they gave me via the online chat function, but eventually I got them to set it up for me (another $2 admin charge for that, but I didn't really care). All said and done to get the first month going (I didn't want to pay for a year in case it didn't work) cost about $40.
Tested it out today and it works great. Traffic reports given without any issues for all points of construction in my city, Ottawa.
Required a little bit a of work getting it going and while I'm not entirely convinced I care too much for the satellite stations, the traffic report is awesome. Just wanted to share my experience with the board and state that it is very much doable,

Thanks for sharing. Something has certainly changed. About 6 months a go they told me that they can't stream both data and audio together on one serial. Maybe when my 6 month free Canadian subscription ends I will switch.
Cheers.
Cheers.

Interesting. My 2010 has two numbers (radio and data). Time for me to call the US Sirius and try to sign up. Did it matter that you used a Canadian Credit Card?
I currently have Sirius Radio through the Canadian company and I find that I actually listen to it more than i thought I would.

Hey guys,
My car has both an audio and data number, although they seem to both be the same. Not sure if that's just an odd coincidence, but given the amount of numbers involved it seems pretty unlikely.
As for the credit card, I'm lucky in that my wife is from the US and so I was able to use a US credit card that we keep for when we go down to visit family. You will need to be able to give a US address at the very least. Can't comment about the credit card part for sure.
Also looked a little more closely and it looks like you can only have the traffic as an add on.
Either way likely worth keeping for around $220 a year.
As for your question Alvi513, I got a pretty good deal on the car (at least I think so) $45,100 including winters (no rims) + tax... of course. It had approximately 24,500km when i picked it up.

Same here! I know this is a Sirius thread but I also have a 2012 S4, been in service since Nov 2011, so 2 years, 49K, would be interested in anyone's re-sale experience
