Road noise or wheel bearings?

Road noise or wheel bearings?
I notice that my A3 has what I think is road noise coming from the front. The sound is more noticeable at lower speeds and when coming to stop. Almost a gravely course like sound. There is no feedback through the steering wheel to indicate wheel bearings, vibration, grinding or shuddering, etc. Just noise. In another thread I mentioned the sound was present with stock 17" tires, and now a bit more prominent with the lower profile 18's. 225/40/18ZR Kumho Ecsta AST. I want to be sure the noise is from tires vs wheel bearings.
Any advice on further assessing this, other than taking it to a shop?
Thank you
Shaun

Re: Road noise or wheel bearings?
Update - I just read reviews at 1010 Tires and Tire Rack on the Kumho Ecsta AST tires. Road noise is a common complaint where other owners thought they may have wheel bearing issues. Had cars back to dealers/repair shops for assessment and told wheel bearings all good. Noise is from tires.

Re: Road noise or wheel bearings?
I thought my bearings were shot. Dealership diagnosed cupping of the tires. Replaced them and all is quiet.
They recommended rotating tires every 5000 km.
That and adding a quart of oil every 3000 k makes it a high maintanance car to some degree.
