New 09 A3 2.0T Quatro Engine Sounds?

Re: New 09 A3 2.0T Quatro Engine Sounds?
It has been a year since I reported this mysterious noise here and this has become one of the longest threads. I came back here today hoping Audi has acknowledged this is an issue because my car still makes the noise. My ears have got numb to it but still annoying whenever I accelerate into the 2200-2600 RPM range.
Whether it originates from a wheel bearing or turbo wastegate, I am anxious to hear about all people getting the same problem fixed by Audi identifying the root cause of the noise.

I will definitely keep this group updated. I am supposed to hear back from them today, and pick up the car. I am assuming it won't be fixed yet, but they should have a game plan.

Okay, so I got my car back tonight. The replaced the entire turbo....but the noise is still there, but slightly quieter. They said they had both turbos outside and were pushing air through both of them. They could see the waste gate on my original turbo had a lot of 'play.' They could also see that the new turbo had some play as well, but not as much as the original, so that's why it is quieter. It looks like we are going to have to live with this, unless they make some new turbo units that are silent. Also, my new turbo has a low end growl to it now. Trying to decide if a I like it. It kind of sounds like my friend's Mustang. The dealer was Uptown Audi in Markham. Not sure if they would do this for everyone, but I guess you could try, although it may only be a marginal benefit for you.
One of the reasons they spent so much time with my car (7 days!) was because when I originally brought it in for this and some other problems, they basically blew them off and said it was normal. Then the service manager emailed me and said if there was any reason I would not give them a stellar survey result to call him. I had already made an appointment at another dealer, but decided to give them a second chance. Hope this is helpful to you guys.

Currently I have 2500 km on the car - the noise is now gone. It looks like I needed to break in the car first. It still appears once in a while but the dealer said if it's still around by the first scheduled service they would fix it.

I have an '09 A3 Front Track (non Quattro) and I too have the sound. 2400 RPM is when it hits and it's been especially loud the last couple of days, but maybe its the colder weather we've been having in Montreal as of late...?! It's an annoying sound and one that shouldn't be coming from a $35k + car.

I have an A3 loaner from the dealer as they work on my A4. It's an 09 or 10 can't tell the diff. 1600K and I don't hear much engine noise. Actually I find it to be a little more responsive than the A4. At acceleration I DO feel the the steering and seat shake but the paddle shifters and I THINK it has DSG because it shifts absolutely seamlessly.
