How much saved from the MSRP???
Hi all,
I am looking to buy an A3 soon but I don't know what to expect in the negotiations. I live in Ottawa and went over to the local dealer for a test drive and to shoot some numbers around. I told him I wanted the base A3 with no options ($33,800) and that I was not willing to pay sticker.
Needless to say I left because there was no wiggle room on that subject, so he said! I realize that Audi is a quality car but 33800 plus tax for an entry level car seemed a bit high, especially with no flexibility on his part. He then told me that he could sell me a used A3 with 35,000 km's on it for 32,000 everything in. Is that good?
Info is much appreciated.

That price is not bad, but it depends on the car. What model, options etc... I will probably sell my A3 in the next few weeks, it's an 06 2.0T, DSG full load, 34,000kms. I feel the need to go Quattro... let me know if you are at all interested.

Re: How much saved from the MSRP???
From what I've been reading and from dealers I've talked to south of the Cad border. The general consensus is that Canadian dealers are old school. Meaning, they're still using 1980's sales tactics...
Personally I'm a Broker specializing in Foreign Exchange. This job means that I talk to anyone buying in a currency other than their home currency. So, needless to say I talk to A LOT of US dealers, and the Canadian's that buy from them. The difference between a US dealer and a Cad is literally unbelievable!
I've had quotes from US dealers up to $2000-3000 below the invoice (sticker) price! Last night when I got a quote from Stephen @ Mark Motors in Ottawa, he gave me the run around. Until I let him know what I do for work. He said he'll "get back to me", so we'll see how things go tonight.
I'm new to the forum, I'm glad there's a Canadian site here for Audi owners!
I'll you guys know how it goes.

I was at Mark's too and I actually brought up the fact that Porsche dropped their pricing to the tune of 8%!! The dude responded by saying that audi doesn't make much $$ on the cars so they do not go below sticker. He also went on to say that in recognition of the 8% drop in porsche prices, Audi was offering free packages. Upgrade to premium, free sunroof and things like that.
Best I could do was a demo for $34g.5 no tax of course. So yeah I'd like to hear what they have to say to another that knows the ins and outs.

Like I said, I'll keep you infomed. I'm anxious to get out of work and see what he's going to come back with. It's almost like Canadian dealers just won't negotiate. When you call the US, you'll find dealers that are willing to work to get your business. They'll give you a better idea of their margin and so on.
The one guy that I work with (he's the GM for a HUGE auto group in NY state) and I were laughing one day at just how cheap the dealers up here are! He knows what they're working with and put it like this "they might as well give a bottle of k-y with each new car".
But...of course...the dealers up here are going to toss and turn. They'll give you reasons why they can't move, instead of actually dropping their price.
Again, there's the convience factor of buying locally...that's what I'm taking into consideration. That, and I'd like to lease. Other than that, I'd be south of the border faster than you can say "$38500 plus tax"...

Re: How much saved from the MSRP???
Hope this helps you, I JUST signed this past Monday for a new 2008 A3
2008 A3 2.0T
DSG
Black Pearl Effect
Bluetooth
Ipod
S-LINE
Open Sky
MSRP comes to 41350.00 (including transport & prep)
Got it for 38950 which is almost 6% below MSRP. I got to that price only because some other dealer screwed up a previous deal last minute and I had to pick another car ( I didn't want open sky in the first place)
This is a dealer in Montreal
