How much does it cost to replace cv joint and wheel bearing...
Here's my dilemna, last week after a storm, i got on the freeway and the steering column started to shake when i was accelerating. I thought it might be the balancing, but car doesn't seem to favour either side when i let it go free. Then I thought it might be the wheel bearing. That issue simply disappeared after a day, so I'm clueless as to what it could be.
Tonight, as I was headed home from work, i noticed my left front was clicking when I turn the wheel all the way to one side and backed out of my parking spot. I googled the issue right away and it told me it may be the cv joint or axle assembly.
Can anyone tell me the average labor cost to replace either the cv joint, axle, and wheel bearing. Or even all of them?
Should I replace both sides as well? Regardless if my issue is currently on one side and not both?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I really need to resolve this issue before the holidays begin!!

I have the same problem with my 2006 A3 mine makes a noise when making turn or after accelerting after a turn. I dont find the car vibrates though when I drive I dont think that would be the cause of it. Your probably looking at about $ 400-500 to repair it is what I was told by mechanic.

Re: How much does it cost to replace cv joint and wheel bearing..
I called CB Garage in Montreal today, and they quoted me 320.00 to replace the entire axle, (rebuilt axle), this includes labor. I think it's a good deal, unless anyone else thinks it should be cheaper. What I forgot to ask was whether the rebuilt axle is OEM or some part from EMPI (which is 100$ brand new). In any case, he charged me 220 for the rebuilt axle and 100 for the labor.
But does anyone know about the core charge? Do I have to give them my old part for the new one? Or can I sell it to a re-builder and save money on the costs for the new part?

Hey,
The vibration might be something as simple as a bit of ice build up on the wheel and as for the clicking, might also be from that or even ice/snow build up on the inside of the wheel well. Unless you've got lots of hard kilometeres on a 4 year old car I can't see it needing "cv joint, axle, or wheel bearings" already. 0.02 cents

Clicking on sharp turns indicates the CV, but you should really have it checked before shot-gunning parts at it. FYI, VAG is also notorious for their short-lived wheel bearings.
If it does turn out to be a CV, I recommend not buying reman. or cheapo stuff. I've never seen a reman'ed, or cheapo axle that didn't make me laugh out loud when I examined it. They are absolute crap. If you can't find a low-mileage used part, I'd opt for Raxles - they cost a lot less than OE, and are of superior quality. The Drive Shaft Shop also makes some very beefy axles, but they're a little more and don't have all that many applications for newer vehicles.

Re: How much does it cost to replace cv joint and wheel bearing..
i wonder what kind of bearings they use in the Audi CV joints... i was able to rebuild my honda one back in the day and it only had 4 bearings...simply ripped the boot off, took out all the grease... put a ton of CV grease in it... slide it back together and tie wrapped the boot and never leaked again lol

I'M Having the same problem too. I got my car inspected today and my cv boot on the passenger side has a rip in it. However the one on the driver side is fine. Should I get both replaced or just 1. Does it matter ???
