Lightbulb GTA member looking for an A3

So I've been doing alot of reading and searching the forum for possible mods which will come after getting the a3.

Not sure what package includes the Sound system, leather seats, moonroof and pan. roof but those features I want...

I heard not sure whether it's true or not but if I end up with an 2007+ S-Line I can't get 18's on it? Is that true?

And if I end up going with an 06 model I can drop it and run 18's?

And is it true that the DSG tranny's have problems? I've been reading and some people say they do and others don't...I'm kinda stuck between the two.

Can you run regular gas on it or must it be premium?

Is the extra warranty worth it? And what's a pre-owned certified cover anyways?

As for colour I've decided to go with white but still haven't decided where I'm going to get it. I've been to Agincourt, Markham, and Whitby. I may be checking out Queensway next weekend so all depends what I can find and what the financing rate will be...

Mods which I would do in the future but want to make sure that the year/model I end up with allows me to do it.

Get 18's on it...
Possibly change the springs (not sure if the sport suspension is any good)
Most likely get sway bars
Not sure on the whole BOSE sound system any good?
How's the horn sound? That loud enough?
And I'm assuming DICE is a good Ipod connector that I should get?
How much does the OEM Navi go for anyways?

Any comments would be great thanks!

Hi there ... I'm anticipating my new (used) A3 delivery sometime this week .... but I did a lot of homework prior to my purchase so hopefully I can help ...

So I've been doing alot of reading and searching the forum for possible mods which will come after getting the a3.
Good choice

Not sure what package includes the Sound system, leather seats, moonroof and pan. roof but those features I want...
Not sure what you mean by sound system ... or if you want BOSE. Leather is included in both the sports and premium package. Moonroof is optional, at least on 06 and 07 models. All moonroof's are panoramic.

I heard not sure whether it's true or not but if I end up with an 2007+ S-Line I can't get 18's on it? Is that true?
Hmm ... by 18" you mean aftermarket I suppose? Cos all 06 and 07 A3's come with 17" rims, regardless of trim or packages. I see no reason why 18" won't fit on 07 S-line, or any other trim.

And if I end up going with an 06 model I can drop it and run 18's?
Again, you can drop and go with 18" on any trim. Don't see a problem there.

And is it true that the DSG tranny's have problems? I've been reading and some people say they do and others don't...I'm kinda stuck between the two.
As far as maintenance goes, the less complicated, the less it costs, so 6MT is always gonna cost you less for maintenance than DSG. When I did my homework I don't think DSG is very problematic, but I am ol' school and I want to shift my own gear, so I didn't really look into DSG at all.

Can you run regular gas on it or must it be premium?
I believe all 2.0T need premium gas (91 or higher).

Is the extra warranty worth it? And what's a pre-owned certified cover anyways?
Whether extra (or aftermarket 3rd party) warranty is worth it is very personal. I looked into it a bit, but I don't like the fact most require you to go to their 'certified' mechanics for repair. Any major engine + drivetrain warranty would cost you ~ $3k over 2 years. I don't think it's likely you'll end up spending that much over the first 2 years (but of course, depends on your mileage, condition of your car, and your luck) so I'd rather take my chances.

Good luck!
