Default DSG - anyone else think it's not so awesome?

Hey all,
I recently bought an 2007 A3 2.0T with a DSG gearbox.

I like the car for the most part but have found I'm not entirely happy with it. My main complaint is the DSG transmission. I find it to be a little unresponsive upon starting from a stop and quite jerky when slowing down (especially in S mode).

I did a quick google and have found that other people have had problems with transmission control module and Audi is considering a recall, however I had my car in for service yesterday and had them check it out and they say everything is fine.

Maybe I am being overly critical, but, I was just wondering if anyone else had any complaints about the DSG and/or had come up with any tricks to make the transmission a little more responsive.

Also, any one else have their power window switch go and/or have the weather stripping on the roof at the rear of the car begin to pop up? Audi fixed both of these for me for free though, which was nice of them.

Cheers,

Meh, I felt the same way about every DSG vehicle I've driven. I mean, it is a technological marvel, but it's still boring to drive and you don't have nearly as much control over your vehicle as you do with a manual. You may just be one of the few people who are sensitive enough to a vehicle's dynamics that you're more comfortable with a manual.

I love the DSG for what it is, but I don't think I'd buy one even if I were 70 years old...

Hello.. I own a 2010 Audi A3.. I dont regret getting the DSG transmission.. I gotta admit though at 1st i wasnt used to it, even waiting at the a red light , once it turned green, i felt like everyone was passing me.. I never had DSG before.. I noticed some things along the way..Like you dont need to padel shift if you dont like it.. You can turn your shifter to the right once selected on D and shift up for + and down for - Its been 3 months.. About 1 month an a half just DSG driving.. Heres some tips, u might already know.. Shift near 2200-2400 rpm , I feel like once i hit 3000rpm it lags , getting the gear in place.. I downshift exactly at these "markers" for example.. ur going 80 , that would mean ur odometer read M6 for 6th gear.. From a distance you come to a red light.. Start breaking till u hit 70, then down shift=M5 to 60 down shift =M4 to50 down shift=M3 to 30 Hit and finally Once ur hit 15-10 u should be in gear one - M1.. It might be tricky, but in between these markers u will gradually slow down, as long as you applying the brake together.. I know this might sound weird but shoes have an effect too.. I can be really precise if i wear the right shoes.. Especially something really thin where you can almost feel the pedal under your foot and not under a sole of rubber.. Im sure you will get the hang of it..

I'm not a fan of DSG, SMG or any of these 2nd Generation Automatic Transmissions. I like three pedals on the floor board. Maybe I'm getting old, but that's my 2 cents. New fandangled tranny's.

I have my 06 DSG A3 not for not but I love it..... I have to admitted that a stick is more fun, but it gives me somewhat the feel of a stick tranny and I personally feel this is very kool!!!

From the 2.0T vs 3.2 comparison articles i've read, one of the big differences was how the DSG was not optimal for a turbo engine, much better suited for N/A.

I love DSG, especially in S mode. I live in the city, and traffic is always around, so manual is kind of irritating for me. Of course if I were driving say a Porsche, manual would be my only option.

Only thing missing in my A3 is a Peloquin LSD.

Take your A3 back to the dealer it has been recalled under cust satisfaction campaign 35b1/j8 to inspect and replace the mechatronic unit and bushings.Mine goes in this weekend Sept 18 for the above work but my god I love that dsg.As for the power window switch you might have tripped a relay switch and just needed to reset the up/down I thought I screwed up the same thing but my service mgr showed my how to reset the switch.

When was this recall 35b1/j8 issued? Is it limited to 2008 or all DSG A3? If you have the recall letter, please post it.
After reading others' posting about the DSG and mechatronic problem from the forum, I complained to the service rep about the DSG's jerky start and delayed launch on my 06 A3 in April. They checked and again said that there was no problem.

I had my '07 A3 in a month or two ago and they had no recalls on the DSG at that time. Going in on monday to have the window switch replaced, maybe they'll check again then.
