I am thinking of getting an A3 from the USA, is this allowed by Audi?

Hey Thanks Zuma. Unfortunately we want a 2008 and it's not on the list yet. Thanks for the info anyways.

I'm in the same boat. But doesn't the RIV list say all other models? (doesn't this imply the A3 is acceptable).

Are any of you out there trying to look for cars with low/no state taxes too? I was reading something here where a dude bought a new toyota and avoided both state taxes and new vehicle registration fees. Can this be done with Audi's also?

That's true. However I think we would have to wait until perhaps mid-year before it might be on the admissble list.

I did save some over MSRP, I went through an auto-broker.

I think I'll give the RIV a call, cuz the A3 has been in the US market since '06, so you wouldn't think they would be THAT slow in updating their lists. Quite possible give our government though.

So you saved some money going through an auto-broker? This means you've bought a different car from the States before?

I've contacted both Audi dealers in US and Canada, then one in the States is willing to sell to me, but since its a new car, I'd have to go through the 'registration' process. The canadian dealer warned of 'expensive' upgrades/mods to make it legal in Canada, but from what I can tell, just need to activate the DLR's and the A3 will be good to go.

I dont think the '08 would be any more expensive to register in Canada than the 05/06 i brought over - and that was not expensive at all - duties & taxes plus RIV fees was the only expenses oh and yes the Canadian Tire Out of Province inspection for me. If the US Dealer will sell to you i think the only other thing would be to speak to the RIV
Good luck. I would be curious on how the New Vehicle importation process works if any different. Keep us up to date

Hello,

I have heard that Audi USA is prohibiting the sale of the new cars to Canadians. Can you please elaborate how you managed to work around this problem?

Didn't have to....neither of mine was new! Certified pre owned AUDI and the warranty is fully transferable to Canada
