Re: DIY: Concert 3 to RNS-E Retrofit - 2012 Audi A3
Thanks for the info.
Did you buy an OEM RNS-E or a knock-off? Price would be pretty good for the original unit.
If you could, please PM me the e-bay seller you used.

I recommend my eBay seller. Good customer service, the package was well packed and the shipping was very fast (express air mail).

Re: DIY: Concert 3 to RNS-E Retrofit - 2012 Audi A3
I just purchased a 2011 Audi with satellite radio and Bose system. Can you help explain what else I need to do for the installation. Can I use the same nav? Thanks in advance

Re: DIY: Concert 3 to RNS-E Retrofit - 2012 Audi A3
A) For the Bose system, there are one wire to move into the QuadLock Connector. On the Blue Connector, you Need to move pin B5 to pin B7. it's pretty simple to do it, I did it for the AUX plug.
B5 ------> B7
B) After, for the Bose system AND for the SAT radio, you have to modify the VagCom proramming. As you can see in my Vag-Com programming (post no. 2), there are modules that need programming with the Bose system and Satellite radio.
As I explained, I am not an expert in Vag-Com programming. Some users on the US forum (http://www.audiforum.us) are very familiar with Vag-Com. PetrolDave helped me a lot.
http://audiforum.us/forums/rns-e.40/
The Ross-Tech wiki give also all programming code inside the car: http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index..._Cabriolet_(8P)
I recommend to program your Audi by a small independent garage specializing in Audi. They have the Ross-Tech software (very expensive) and the wire needed to plug it at your car. To save time in the garage ($$$$), the best is to have your programming code with you and give it to the garage. It is then very fast. The cheap kit on eBay (China) are not recommended. They do not allow access to certain program modules.
Enjoy,

Certainly. Why not. The radio hole and connector quadlock seem the same. It remains only to verify your VagCom programming.

Re: DIY: Concert 3 to RNS-E Retrofit - 2012 Audi A3
alright guys, I FInally picked up my 2011 -line titanium edition A3 and coulnd't be happier!
(Includes Bose upgraded nav system and Sirius xm radio)
Well except as mentioned before doesn't have nav/ipod interface I want so badly.
But it totally freaks me out to think of doing the intall correctly myself (i.e. having use of steering wheel controls etc). I live in Toronto and looking for a reputable installer. Any suggestions Please and thanks!?
Also need to find the nav system to install first. Is ebay the best bet?
Thanks again!

To Amimal:
First, Congratulations for your purchase.
Installation is really easy. Follows the step of my D.I.Y. Otherwise, go to a small independent garage specializing in VW / Audi. Look: https://www.audiforum.ca/showthread....653#post175653 They can make you install the radio programming AND Vagcom (not to be ignored). Within two hours of time (max).
I think that eBay is the best place for price and low risk (purchase price covered by the warranty from PayPal). Otherwise, I found this store: http://vagnavs.com/Audi1.html at 1399.00 USD, but I do not know if it's one of the first (192) or second generation (193) RNS-E. According to the photo, this is the first (192) generation, because ***** are not chrome. Among other things, first gen (192), they have No HD screen, No SDHC Card (only SD card max - 8 Go), No 3D map view, Not the same processor (slower)...
There is also this store: http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/8P0_035_193/ at 2000.00 USD without the DVD maps and the GPS antenna Fakra.
To you to see. Personally, I do not regret having taken an eBay seller... My RNS-E look like a new one (no scratches or signs of wear) and works great.
Good luck,
4Circle
***Also, if anyone do the retrofit, please send your photos and a description of your experience. This may be interested to read you. 4Circle***
