Default 2007 A3 - Burning Through Oil

I recently just got my A3, and since my last oil change I have put in 2 liters of oil. So 2 separate times the oil light came on, and when I check I have the min amount.

Does anyone else have this problem, running low on oil before you get to a decent mileage before a change?

Any suggestions for a better oil/filter than the Castrol 5W40?

Thanks!

I know I have too always top up oil as well about a liter between oil changes as well. That seems to be the norm to be honest. How many k's are you going before oil changes though ? I use Motul Motor oil its a full synthetic unlike the castrol syntec that you are using. As for filter I am using a Mann oil filter.

Well I didn’t know that Castrol isn’t full Synth!
I will try Motul next oil change, which is soon.
I’ve been going about 6-7 k before an oil change, with a few liters in between to top up!

I've never seen an Audi that doesn't burn oil. I change oil every 10K's and I'm putting in either 1 or 2 liters between changes. I have 130K's on my car now, but it's always done this....

I've talked to the dealer. They say it's perfectly normal for an Audi. Which sounds like typical dealer BS to me.

I use Motul synthetic as well. Seems to work good. Plus the lids are really cool , I change oil every 7000 km and go through about 1 Litre give or take.

My dealer said perfectly normal. They top it off under my service plan bought when the car was new, although it is a bit of a pain to take 45 min. to drop by the dealer and get them to do what I can do in 5 min.

I carry a litre of oil with me in the car.

I can tell you (as I am a dealer techncian), the manufacturer is saying this is normal due to a oblong cylinder bore. Its abit of back tracking in my opinion.

There might be an active recall for the PCV system. This has been a very good fix to the oil consumption issues the 2.0T has been plagued with.

Also, might want to consider and oil consumption test. This is a test that is run through the dealer VAS scan tool system and can accurately determine if the oil consumption is out of spec or not. I think there might be an extension of warranty on this problem but don't quote me on that.

Check with the dealer for the recall first and go from their.

Good luck.

Well, I put in another litre of oil the other day. That's 1 litre every 2500 km of 70/30 city/highway driving. Asked the dealer if they thought that was a bit high and again was told it was within spec. 1 litre per 2000km being spec.

I mentioned that I had heard of a recall. They checked and noted the pressure control valve and another fuel system recall. I hadn't received notice of ether.

Having the recalls done today. Will report if there is a change in oil consumption.

Those were the recalls I was speaking about. You'll get a new updated PVC valve and hardware and small turbo inlet pipe and a new fuel pressure sensor. I had the same recall on my A3 and saw a noticeable difference.

Their are a few out there that this recall may not correct or alleviate the consumption...but keep watching it. We have had a few 2.0T re-ringed and the issue was corrected.

Hope it all works out.

hmm...maybe I should check my oil...
